Aiwa AP-2200
It's a direct drive turntable with a plinth made from a special composite material (woolrock?) and very heavy, much heavier than it looks. When I found this turntable I had no idea of it's quality, Aiwa have made much low cost audio equipment of little merit but this is in another league. I have this playing the Ortofon X3 MC cartridge and it sounds great, the arm and cartridge go together well. I like this just as much as the Technics SL 1200 and it sounds better.
Came across another example of this turntable. It has the strobe light not working and the speeds are unstable.
These are not big issues to fix on this turntable. Remove the base and everything is relatively easy to see and get to. The front panel that the controls come through can be loosened and removed, then remove two screws and remove the power switch; the board with the strobe lamp is underneath and can be removed to replace the lamp; a small neon.
I replaced the electrolytic capacitors on the motor board and that fixed the speed issues - cleaned and adjusted the front panel control pots and then adjusted the trimmer pots (VR1 and VR2 only- don't touch the other trimmers on the motor circuit board) on the motor board to set the turntable speeds correct for middle of the rotation for the front panel speed control pots. Replaced the Rifa capacitor across mains they usually have crack and are not working, sometimes they smoke and blow a fuse. (many electronic items used these Rifa caps!)
