Thorens TD165
This turntable is in pretty good condition, a little scuffing on the top deck, they seem tot be noted for having an easily marked finish as compared tot the TD160. The arm came with the small anti-skating weight, more than enough to match most cartridges' vertical tracking force.
At the moment this turntable is being made operational in mostly its original form; no modding...yet. I want to listen to it as it was made.
A new belt, oil in the bearing as it was completely dry, and adjustment of the spring suspension. I have a Shure M91ED cartridge and have lubed and adjusted the tonearm bearings. It is now running very well and sounds great.
I have replaced the tiny rubber feet with larger ones from the "parts bin" as the originals a re a bit worse for wear. Otherwise no other "improvements". I know it has "more potential" according to the many internet opinions but I want to hear it for a while before trying to make it better, and hearing memory can play tricks on you, let alone ancillary equipment choices when the before and after comparisons are made...lots of notes and apples with apples comparison!
not always as easy as it sounds.
So far it does sound good, the original standard platter mat does a pretty good job of suppressing ringing on the platter and the inner sub-platter is plastic not cast metal, not getting a lot of feedback through the plinth and lid even at very high volume , much louder than I can listen to it.
More to come later, I'll make notes.
