Philips AF-820 Fully Automatic Direct Drive
Why put this turntable on here? well because it's incredibly rare! There are many Philips turntables but this one hardly shows up on google just one person trying to find out about it, no pictures that I can find. The closest is a Philips AF-911 very similar but only semi automatic.
This is a DIRECT DRIVE turntable and is not belt drive (as some seem to think) it was most likely made in Japan by CEC for Philips. This is not the same quality as the turntables actually made by Philips such as the GA 212 (GA series); they look entirely different and are of much better quality and have innovative technology such as touch switches...
The AF-820 is quite lightweight, made of mostly plastic, the platter is metal alloy and no lighter than many other mid range turntables, the arm is quite good. It still has the original Philips 501 cartridge mounted.
This example just needed cleaning and the DIN plug replacing with RCA plugs (the old DIN plug was rusty and beaten up).
It works and plays very well, sounds fine and will probably be more reliable than the older? GA series turntables, it would definitely be easier to repair; despite being fully automatic this is still a relatively simple turntable compared to the real Philips turntables.
